Ex-TYGERS OF PAN TANG Singer Sells NEAT RECORDS To SANCTUARY

June 5, 2002

Former TYGERS OF PAN TANG frontman Jess Cox, who has spent the last several years as MD of Neat Records (incorporating Neat Metal Records & Eldethorn Records) has sold the label to Sanctuary Records. He will, however, continue with his label Edgy Records with releases through the rest of the year. Upcoming titles include:

BLITZKRIEG – TBA (new album)
HOLOCAUSTPrimal (new album)
BLUE APPLE BOY - new album
ARTILLERY - By Inheritance (reissue)
TYGERS OF PAN TANG - First Kill (+6 bonus tracks & new artwork)
TYGERS OF PAN TANG - Burning In The Shade (last studio LP, only previously available on vinyl)

Also scheduled are new releases from TANK and DIAMOND HEAD for after the summer.

Said Jess: "Neat was dead when I arrived in 1992. I resurrected it, releasing some 70 albums on Neat Records, Neat Metal Records & Eldethorn. After 10 years, I felt it was time for a change. Running the company effectively by myself — organizing all signings, releases & policy & (with the help of Victoria Robinson),organizing marketing, press & promotions, I found it impossible to do the releases justice (especially while running Edgy Records at the same time). I'd kinda created this monster with worldwide distribution & licensing in Japan, America & S America to contend with also. 40 or 50 of our releases, for instance, came out on Pony Canyon Records in Japan between 1995-2001.

"I really didn't want to sell the label, but I needed to create some space to concentrate on Edgy Records Ltd. Sanctuary will be able to release all the old 80s NWOBHM catalogue that I couldn't find the time to do & which I was constantly asked about — like HELLENBACH, CLOVEN HOOF &, of course, VENOM."

Edgy Records Ltd has also started a UK export one-stop for underground hard to find rock releases/labels called Metal Nation Distribution. This will carry labels like British Steel, Angel Air, Heavy Metal Records, Verglas & releases from Frontiers & Sanctuary Records (including all the Neat re-releases).

"It's business as usual, really" adds Jess, "We have a bunch of new releases pending & we are also carrying all these great UK rock labels."

In related news, the reunited TYGERS OF PAN TANG are currently demoing new material for their forthcoming studio album, the group's first with new vocalist Richie Wicks (who is also playing bass for ANGEL WITCH). Tentatively entitled God Speak, the album is due to be released through an as-yet-undetermined label in late 2002 or early 2003.
